The capital’s first dance museum opens at Beijing Dance Academy

Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Beijing Dance Academy, the Beijing Dance Academy Dance Museum was officially opened on Sunday.

This is the first museum in Beijing dedicated to the history of Chinese dance, and also serves as an important platform for displaying the art of dance and a base for academic research. The museum is located on the second floor of the Dance Theater of the Beijing Academy of Dance. The current exhibitions systematically review the history of dance from primitive society to the contemporary era. Each section presents the historical culture and characteristics of the dance of its era, using vivid displays of ancient music and dance figurines, instruments, literature and dance videos to allow visitors to experience first-hand the charm of dance chinese

In particular, some ancient music and dance figurines donated by Wang Qian, an associate researcher at the Xi’an Beilin Museum in Shaanxi Province, are also on display. In addition, eight members of the World Dance Education Alliance, initiated by Beijing Dance Academy, have donated to the museum. Institutions such as the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture, the National Dance Academy of Kazakhstan and the Matsuyama Ballet Company of Japan contributed musical instruments, paintings and books that represent the artistic characteristics of their respective nations.

Xu Rui, vice secretary of the Party committee and president of the Beijing Dance Academy, explained that the museum will provide vital resources for teaching and researching the history of Chinese dance. It will also provide a place for dance enthusiasts and researchers to appreciate the beauty of Chinese dance art, as well as a platform for the wider public to learn about traditional Chinese culture through dance.
