“They wanted to kill me” – Timaya

“They wanted to kill me” – Timaya

Singer Inetimi Alfred Odom, popularly known as Timaya, has explained how her decision to use controversy as a strategy backfired.

In a recent interview with Channels TV, the ‘Dem Mama’ crooner said that being controversial was a strategy, but the media overplayed it, which proved costly.

“My being controversial was a strategy, but the press took it too far; they wanted to kill me And then, it wasn’t the internet; it was the newspapers When they publish it (controversial story), it hits the streets a week before they publish another one. During this week, you will be the subject of discussion”, he recalled.

“When you go shopping for suya next week, you will see your face in the newspaper that was used to wrap it. So it was very hard. And that time, I was the only one who caused controversy. People thought he was crazy. My background as a Port Harcourt boy also played a big role in my controversy at the time.”

Timaya explained that he made deliberate efforts to rebrand after his controversial strategy backfired.

The singer has been involved in several controversies in the past, including reclaiming a car gift from his ex-girlfriend, actress Empress Njamah, after their break-up.

He also had beef with producer Nico Gravity years ago.

Last year, his partner, Terry G, called him out over an alleged music royalty debt.
