Mom Waits Frustrated With Huntsville Hospital Termination, United Healthcare

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A Huntsville woman is less than two months away from giving birth to her second child, and she’s worried the birth won’t be covered by her insurance.

This is all because Huntsville Hospital cut ties with United Healthcare.

United Healthcare patients using Huntsville Hospital will be considered out of network after November 15th.

Danielle DuPont, a former WAFF 48 News employee, said she was not notified that her insurance was going out of network and learned about it from our reports. He says he’s been going around in circles trying to find a solution.

Dupont has been so excited to welcome her son into this world, but now insurance is stressing her out at the end of her pregnancy.

“Every time I’ve called Huntsville Hospital, they’ve told me you can have your baby here, but it’s going to be out of network,” DuPont said.

UHC will officially be out of network at Huntsville Hospital on November 15th, just weeks before DuPonts due date. She says the thought of changing doctors during the last three weeks of her pregnancy is scary and there seems to be no solution.

“I’ve literally used that time almost every day to talk to insurance and try to find answers, it’s frustrating,” DuPont said.

Dupont has already paid her OBGYN delivery fees, but her doctor is only entitled to deliver at Huntsville Hospital.

But delivery room fees and other medical supplies, including the Huntsville Hospital room, would have to be paid out of pocket.

“I feel like I’m the one being punished because I’m just being ripped out from under me,” she said.

United Healthcare said in a statement that members who are pregnant may qualify for extended coverage for some time.

Members are advised to contact United Healthcare, but when DuPont has done so, it has left them with more questions.

“I talked to United Healthcare and they told me to talk to Huntsville Hospital. They’re blaming each other for this, I’m caught in the middle,” DuPont said.

WAFF 48 News has reached out to Huntsville Hospital for comment. We have not received a response at this time.
