Sakshi Malik: Vinesh Phogat reacts to Sakshi Malik’s ‘Greed’ claims amid wrestling controversy | Chandigarh News

Jind: The revelations made by Olympian Sakshi Malik in her autobiography, Witness, have sparked attacks and counter-attacks between wrestlers and political parties in Haryana.
In her book, Sakshi Malik has claimed that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia were “driven by greed and got exemptions from the trials of the 2023 Asian Games”. This, according to her, tarnished the image of the movement of fighters that had started against the allegations of sexual harassment against the then president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan.Sakshi also claimed in her autobiography that the movement was supported by BJP leader Babita Phogat, famous as the ‘Dangal Girl’. He said it was Haryana BJP leader Teerth Rana who helped get permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar. The Congress Party, he said, had no involvement in the entire protest. Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat, without naming Sakshi directly, responded to the revelations on social media, saying, “Don’t believe everything you hear. There are always three sides to a story – yours, hers and the truth.” . In an interaction with the media, regarding Sakshi’s claims about Vinesh and Bajrang being motivated by greed, Congress MP from Julana Vinesh Phogat replied, “What kind of greed? Ask them. As an athlete, if defending fellow athletes and my sisters is greed, then I consider it good if it is greed that pushes us to bring medals to the country in the Olympic Games, then this greed will remain with us until our last breath”.
On the other hand, Dronacharya awardee Mahavir Phogat has responded to the allegations made by Sakshi Malik against his daughter Babita Phogat regarding her becoming the president of WFI. He claimed, “Sakshi Malik speaks the language of the Congress.” He added that Babita defended the players’ agreements and has also supported the protests. He claimed that after the elections, the statements of Priyanka Gandhi and Deepender Hooda are being aired through Sakshi Malik. He emphasized that Babita has no intention of becoming president of the WFI; has always supported the players.
