Police: Two Columbia County women neglected dozens of cats

Two Columbia County women are accused of neglecting 40 cats.

New York State Police received a tip about animal cruelty in the town of Hillsdale. Jennifer Rossi, 45, and Peggy Card, 45, allegedly failed to provide sustenance or care for the animals.

Police worked in conjunction with the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, Animal Nation Incorporated and the Hillsdale Department of Buildings in the investigation.

Animal Nation, based in Westchester, cares for cats. Two of the felines were sent to a local veterinarian due to their poor condition and were pronounced dead.

Rossi and Card were charged Oct. 18 with 40 misdemeanor counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance. They were issued appearance tickets and will appear in Hillsdale Town Court on November 20.
