CM Yogi launches projects worth Rs 1,147cr at SGPGI

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that as MP from Gorakhpur, he felt the plight of parents of children battling encephalitis and added that he was satisfied that the twin-engine government had succeeded in curbing the killer disease
Speaking at a program to inaugurate projects worth over Rs 1,147 crore at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), the CM said, “As MP from Gorakhpur, I saw what parents go through when their children fall ill. I raised the issue of encephalitis in the Lok Sabha. I am satisfied that the government’s energy has curbed the problem.”
The CM inaugurated a Advanced Diabetes CenterTele UCI, Center of the Heart of Saloni (Phase-1), and a hostel for the Faculty of Medical Technology, in addition to laying the foundation stone of the Advanced Pediatric Centre, Saloni Heart Center (Phase 2) and ‘raen basera’ (night shelter).
Noting that UP has taken a significant leap in public health in the last seven-and-a-half years due to the synchronized efforts of the state and Union government, Yogi said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state is making continuous progress in Before 2017, only 18 districts had medical colleges, but now there are medical colleges in 64 districts the state has also doubled.”
Reiterating his government’s commitment to strengthening health services in the state and trusting SGPGI, the CM said, “It is a matter of satisfaction that projects worth over Rs 1,147 crore have taken off in SGPGI today It speaks to our commitment to public health and the trust people have in SGPGI.”
He hoped that the projects would help the institute to expand its position nationally and internationally. “SGPGI is the hope of the people of UP regions as well as residents of neighboring states when it comes to serious health conditions. Despite its huge size, it often has no beds, but then we all do our best to address it,” he said. .
The CM lauded the “integrated approach to disease management” with the advanced pediatric center and advanced diabetes center as examples. He pointed out that while, on the one hand, 22 specialties that deal with children’s health would be under one roof in the advanced pediatric center, the help for all kinds of diseases related to diabetes, from the syndrome metabolic to the diabetic foot (among others), would be available at the Advanced Diabetes Center.
He said SGPGI’s telemedicine center proved its worth during the pandemic period and its expansion would help combat the shortage of specialists in remote locations.
“Despite best efforts, governments alone cannot address social and health challenges. Partnerships like the one between SGPGI and Saloni Heart Center offer hope,” he said.
Speaking after inaugurating the first phase of the Saloni Heart Center at the institute, the CM said, “The centre, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, aims to perform serious heart surgeries on 5,000 children annually and will provide a second opinion to 10,000 more children each year, which will help the state fight congenital heart disease in a big way.”
He said the night shelter being constructed under ONGC’s CSR initiative at a cost of Rs 51 crore will serve the needy people.
The CM assured the SGPGI authorities that the state government would provide all necessary support to ensure timely progress. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
