Less than a week after a driver drove past a school bus in Collier County as it stopped to pick up a student and struck a student, an incident report from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office has revealed more details.

According to the sheriff’s office, the crash happened around 6:25 a.m. Thursday along Radio Road in Naples.

Authorities identified the driver as Sandra Viviana Zuluaga, 54, of Naples. Zuluaga was issued a citation for aggressive driving and a $1,000 fine.

According to an incident report from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the young woman, a Naples High School student, was bleeding from the face, crying and shaking after she was hit by a passing car driven by Zuluaga .

A witness told authorities she was parked at the entrance to the Meadow Brook community when she saw a Collier County school bus approach the corner of the community’s entrance with yellow lights flashing to indicate that the bus was stopping to pick up the students.

The report states that several students were at the bus stop.

The witness said that although she could not see if the bus had extended the stop bar on the driver’s side, she saw the young man start to cross Radio Road from the median to walk in front of the bus school and get on the bus.

According to the witness, Zuluaga continued to circle the bus, accelerating rapidly as the lights continued to flash, and struck the juvenile.

When authorities spoke with Zuluaga, she said another vehicle traveling east in front of her started braking “on and off,” adding that she thought the other driver was ” controlling the brakes.”

Zuluaga told authorities she quickly changed lanes, adding that she was frustrated and wanted to pass the school bus, according to the report.

Authorities said the minor was taken to NCH North accompanied by her parents.

When officials reviewed surveillance footage collected of the school bus, they found that the bus had nearly come to a complete stop when Zuluaga accelerated and flipped the school bus.
