The Drug Education Council has the town hall in Semmes

SEMMS, Ala. (WALA) – Parents, students and law enforcement gathered Monday evening to discuss the growing concern of teenagers overdosing on fentanyl.

The Drug Education Council held a town hall to involve the community in what is happening around the country and in their own neighborhoods.

This comes after three Semmes teenagers suffered fatal fentanyl overdoses.

Officials say they are doing everything they can to stop people from distributing this deadly drug and help those suffering from addiction. They say that if these things are not discussed, they will not be solved.

“When we find those responsible for distributing drugs to young people, we go after them with everything we’ve got, and those who decide to sell it, I don’t care, they can die in prison,” said Mobile Sheriff Paul Burch. .

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said, “We can’t stop the addiction problem, the disease of addiction from coming out, so I think it’s important to have that treatment option, so we hope that these people receive the treatment they need and do not make any victims”.

A teacher at Mary G. Montgomery High School also weighed in on the discussion, saying she has attended more funerals for her students than graduations in the past five years, all because of the fentanyl crisis.
