What you need to know

  • Rumors claim that the dimensions of the Pixel 9a could come as: 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9 mm.

  • Speculation has it that the Pixel 9a’s display could increase from the Pixel 8a’s 6.1-inch display to 6.2 or 6.3 inches.

  • A number of alleged renders of the Pixel 9a surfaced recently, suggesting that the phone could ditch an iconic look from the Pixel line.

A new leak claims to have reduced the dimensions of Google’s upcoming budget Pixel.

The leaks come from well-known whistleblower X OnLeaks, who claim they’ve received “updated data” on the dimensions of the Pixel 9a (via Android News). According to rumors, the upcoming Pixel A series could have the following measurements: 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9 mm. The tipster adds that the final measurement increases to “9.4mm” when the rear camera housing is taken into account.

These measurements suggest a slightly taller (taller) and wider device than the Pixel 8a’s 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9mm measurements.

Rumors about the device’s display remain relatively uncertain. However, the publication theorizes that the slight changes in the dimensions of the Pixel 9a could result in a small increase in the display. The publication speculates that the Pixel 9a could welcome users with a 6.2- to 6.3-inch display, which would pit it against the flagship Pixel 9.

Also, as the post adds, the Pixel A series often features larger bezels than the flagship line. With that in mind, this slight change in dimension may not matter much. The Pixel 9a could eventually be unveiled even more remarkable bezels than we might want.

This is speculation at this point, so keep that in mind.

There’s still some time before the Pixel 9a is revealed, but that’s not stopping a bunch of renders from surfacing. The alleged images suggest that the Pixel 9a will mirror the design of the flagship Pixel 9 series, but with one major change: the lack of a camera visor. Rumors claim that the phone will ditch the huge camera bump in favor of an array on the rear panel.

Google stood by its big and proud camera bump on the Pixel 9 back in August. However, the company cited consumer interest in photography as a catalyst for the bump. Google’s director of design for Pixel phones, Claude Zellweger, said the interest in wanting sharper, clearer photos requires stronger sensors and lenses, hence the big hit.

How this rumored change affects the Pixel 9a’s camera performance remains to be seen.

In other news, the Pixel 9a is rumored to take a strange twist on the Tensor G4. This “slightly different” SoC could feature an alternative packaging method that could lead to higher temperatures for the phone. We’ve seen this happen with the Pixel 7a, so it looks like history is repeating itself.

The Pixel 9a is rumored to debut in the second quarter of 2025.
