Man Utd news: Rasmus Hojlund distances himself as star ‘likely’ to leave next summer | Soccer | sport

Manchester United are preparing to travel to Istanbul, where they await Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League. With a trip to West Ham United days later, Erik ten Hag faces a pair of tricky tests on the road as he looks to build on Saturday’s 2-1 win against Brentford.

United are expected to fly to Turkey tomorrow for media duties and a training session at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Rasmus Hojlund refreshes the comparisons

Rasmus Hojlund’s winner at the weekend was his first Premier League goal of the season. The Dane’s ability over Mark Flekken attracted comparisons with his coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

But Hojlund has distanced himself from those suggestions, praising his impact on his game but insisting he is his own striker.

“A Van Nistelrooy finish? I don’t want to be compared to him. If you want to talk about him, he’s a role model for us. I can develop a lot alongside him,” said the 21-year-old.

“Working very closely with Ruud van Nistelrooy is a big step for me. He is doing a great job. I try to bring everything I can every time I step on the pitch, especially here at Old Trafford.”

Christian Eriksen will likely leave

Hojlund is United’s future, while Christian Eriksen could be in the club’s past next season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 32-year-old midfielder is likely to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Eriksen is not believed to be in active discussions over an extension, paving the way for an exit next summer.

He has enjoyed a renaissance this term, so his departure would surely call United into action to find a replacement in the transfer market.

Erik ten Hag against Jose Mourinho

Ten Hag will battle Jose Mourinho in the dugout for the first time in his career on Thursday, and is relishing the chance to meet the former United boss.

After suggesting he would speak to Mourinho before and after the Europa League clash, Ten Hag said: “It’s a big game for both of us.

“I’m going to really enjoy going up against him and playing against him. He’s always had good teams.

“He’s a winner. He’s won a lot of trophies. I think he’s an example for many, many coaches, so I really enjoy playing against him.”
