The San Antonio Spurs didn’t head into the preseason expecting wins.

If they got them, in the words of Julian Champagnie, “hooray”. If not, “hooray”. All the focus was on development and which players deserved a contract or rotation minutes.

Coming off the five-game slate, in which San Antonio finished 2-3, those players were Julian Champagnie, Stephon Castle and Riley Minix, among others. But what else was learned in the five games leading up to Victor Wembanyama’s second season?
