Nathan Wade reveals why the House Committee couldn’t find him for subpoena

A broken ankle from a pickup basketball game is the new plot twist in the mystery of why it took several days to find and serve special prosecutor Nathan Wade, formerly of Fulton County, Georgia, with a subpoena from the Judiciary Committee of the Chamber

The Republican-led committee had tried unsuccessfully for days to subpoena Wade’s testimony about his past romantic relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Republicans on the panel questioned the fairness of his prosecution of former President Donald Trump for trying to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden, a felony. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported in late September that the subpoena had finally been served.

In his testimony, Wade said his radio silence for several days can be traced back to a community basketball league game and a broken ankle that forced him to seek orthopedic attention.

“Obviously, I was on prescription medication because of the pain and swelling
my right ankle And so far, it’s still swollen. So sometimes, I might have to elevate it to keep the swelling down,” Wade stated. “But I took a few days to take care of my broken ankle and prepare for an upcoming mediation and arbitration. When I was able to deal with the pain without the help of prescription pain meds and arrived, I turned on my cell phone and got ready to go work out in my exercise room. And when I did, the messages started ringing.”

Among his missed calls was a voicemail from a US Marshal.

“I called this gentleman again. And at this point, it’s 4:00 a.m. because I get up at 4:00 a.m. to do my exercise regimen. He answered the phone. And I said, ‘Apparently , I understand that I am I have seen reports that no one can find Nathan Wade. Who is looking for me? Then the marshal said to me, “Sir, this is ridiculous.” And I said, ‘What service?’ And he said, “I have something here to serve you from Congress And I said, I tell you what, I can meet you now, or we can appoint a time and a place.” And he said, “No problem.” He said, “But that summons was for today.”

The subpoena was eventually served, and Wade ended up testifying for four and a half hours in camera on October 15.

During his testimony, Wade said the case against Trump “was not politically motivated, but was an independent investigation based on facts, interviews, evidence and the rule of law. I had no mandate other than to honestly seek the truth.” .

Trump and 18 co-defendants were indicted by Willis on racketeering and other charges last year. Although at least four co-defendants have since pleaded guilty, Trump and several co-defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Trump attributes his legal troubles heading into the 2024 election season to a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
