Family dog ​​that went missing during massive Prince William County house explosion found

After a large home explosion left two families displaced in Prince William County, the homeowner told 7News they were relieved they got out alive, but they weren’t sure if their pets they came out

“I lost two pets and my best friend lost one of his very young pets that he hadn’t had for over a couple of years. I lost a best friend of 10 years and a 4 year old cat that was very old. a part of our family,” Jarrett Struniak told 7News after the explosion. “Nothing will bring them back unless they somehow made it out alive, which I hope they did. Who knows where they are right now if they did?”

Struniak lived in the house that blew up with her fiance and young daughter, and another family lived in the house.

But on Monday, Prince William County firefighters said the family’s dog was located.

Firefighters were called to the rear of the home scene in the 5900 block of Colby Hunt Court Monday morning for a report of a dog barking in the rubble. Crews at the scene immediately heard the dog under an area of ​​the collapsed house and worked to save it.

With the help of structural collapse stabilization techniques and persuasion from the dog’s owner, firefighters were able to rescue the dog from the rubble.

The dog is said to be in “good shape” and happy to be free.

On October 15, families were displaced after a house exploded in Haymarket, Va., when firefighters were on the scene responding to a gas leak. The house was evacuated in time and four adults and two small children survived.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Kim Stewart told 7News it all started when a contractor was digging up the neighborhood’s soil to repair a water main.

After a malfunction, Stewart said the contractor hit a gas line and it broke. The house was completely destroyed. Two other houses, one on either side of the blast site, suffered minor damage.
