Liam Payne’s ex-girlfriend is paying tribute to the singer and revealing a message she received from him weeks before his death.

Danielle Peazer, a dancer who dated Payne from 2010 to 2013, remembered the late One Direction star on Instagram on Sunday after he died in Argentina on Wednesday after falling from a hotel balcony. He was 31 years old.

Peazer said that although her relationship with Payne ended more than a decade ago, “it seemed like it was just the beginning of our story” and “deep down we always knew that we would have some kind of connection forever, regardless of where our individual was they brought us lives.”

She went on to share that she received a message from Payne “a couple of weeks ago” expressing her “happiness about the love I found with” her partner Sonny Jay and daughter Mia. That’s “something I’ll cherish forever,” Peazer said.

Peazer also wrote that while he was “aware” of Payne’s “struggles over the years,” he “hoped and prayed that this day would never come.”

Addressing the singer in the post, she reflected that it took her “a little bit longer to figure out the person you wanted to be to be your happiest” because “even though most of us have our teens and twenties to learn about ourselves, You spent these years giving more to the world than you ever needed.”

“I would like you to know that you are always more than enough for this world without having to look for a role to play just to please others,” she said. Peazer concluded his tribute by writing, “I’m sorry your story didn’t end differently, and I’m sorry you never got to share more of your magic with the world. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Payne has previously spoken about his struggles with addiction. Argentine police said they were called to the singer’s hotel by an “aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

Many tributes to Payne have been shared by loved ones in the days since his death, including his former One Direction bandmates. Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson said in a joint statement that they are “completely devastated by the news of Liam’s death”.

Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, also said on her Instagram story on Friday that she “has been completely lost.”

“Nothing in the past few days has felt real,” Cassidy wrote. “I ask and pray that you give me the grace and space to navigate this privately.”
