King Charles faced an unexpected encounter during a reception at the Australian Parliament on Monday after a senator hurled shocking claims at the visiting royal family.

“The warmth and scale of the reception was truly incredible. While they are grateful to all the crowds, Their Majesties particularly enjoyed hearing individual stories from those who had made such a special effort to be there.” .

A palace source also added that the king was “insensitive” and “wasn’t going to let it overshadow what would have been a wonderful day”.
