Millions in Cash, Shower: Inside Ex-Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar’s Luxurious Bunker | world news

The Israeli military has released shocking images of Yahya Sinwar’s underground bunker, showing the luxurious amenities the former Hamas chief enjoyed while hiding from the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Sinwar, the mastermind behind the brutal October 7 attacks, allegedly prepared to exit the war with a stash of cash, cologne and personal amenities in his bunker beneath the devastated town of Khan Younis.

Inside Yahya Sinwar’s bunker

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared video footage revealing the well-equipped bunker, with:

– Modern showers

– Several bathrooms

– Fully functional kitchen

– Food rations labeled with the logo of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNRWA).

The bunker also contained several bottles of cologne, toiletries and a private shower. A large safe filled with millions of Israeli shekels was found in Sinwar’s personal quarters, along with lockers full of weapons, ammunition and explosives.

Sinwar, 61, had taken refuge in the bunker alongside his guards and close aides as the conflict escalated above ground. The footage includes a bag of food supplied by UNRWA, bolstering Israel’s long-standing accusations that Hamas diverts resources from international agencies, worsening the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The bunker contained several bottles of cologne, toiletries and even a private shower. According to an IDF soldier who toured the bunker, Sinwar’s personal quarters had a large safe filled with millions of Israeli shekels. Next to the entrance, the soldiers discovered lockers stocked with weapons, ammunition and explosives.

According to Israeli sources, Sinwar spent much of the conflict hiding underground while directing Hamas operations and trying to avoid capture. During his escape, reports indicated that his wife, Abu Zamar, was carrying a 28 lakh ($32,000) Hermes Birkin bag.

The death of Yahya Sinwar

Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces last week. Since then, Israel has been engaged in a multi-front conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant groups designated as terrorist organizations by the US.

Sinwar became the head of Hamas after the previous leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an explosion in Iran in July that was widely blamed on Israel.

It’s unclear who would replace Sinwar and what that might mean for ceasefire efforts, which stalled in August after months of negotiations brokered by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.
