Former Barcelona player Rivaldo made comparisons this weekend between himself and current Barcelona talent Lamine Yamal.

Wideman Lamine, meanwhile, is of course in the midst of a superb start to the new campaign.

Starting all but one of Barcelona’s 11 games in all competitions, the 17-year-old has directly contributed to 10 goals.

Nine such contributions have come in nine La Liga appearances, through which Lamine has wreaked havoc on opposing backs from his spot on the right flank.

Despite his tender years, the Barça youth product is making a name for himself not just as one of the best youngsters in world football, but as the best players.

And, as mentioned above, this weekend, those efforts on Lamine’s part have culminated in further praise, from a Barca icon.

Speaking during an interview with Diario Sport, as quoted goalon Sunday, Ballon d’Or winner Rivaldo was drawn by Lamine’s explosion on the world stage.

And the Brazilian went on to reveal that in some ways the Euro 2024 winner “reminds me of myself”:

“What everyone loves is Lamine. He’s an impressive player, but you’ve got Gavi, a lot of good ones. Sometimes, yes (he reminds me of myself), because I went out on the pitch to enjoy football, to that joy. He plays to enjoy it, and so do the fans. He is 17 years old and plays as if he were 26 or 27”.

Rivaldo continued:

“For sure it will be great, it is, he is doing a great job: he is the European champion, he did well in Barcelona. But one day it will be the best in the world.”
