Drug abuse: Tackling drug abuse: key insights from the PRSU workshop | News from Raipur

Workshop addresses drug use, prevention

Raipur: School of Anthropological Studies, Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) organized a one-day training and awareness workshop on the topic “Drug abuse and Trafficking Prevention and Laws on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan“.
Senior Counselor Ajay Shrivastava of Integrated Addiction Rehabilitation Centre, Sankalp Sanskriti Samiti, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the physical, mental, social and economic damages of addictive substancesincluding tobacco. Shrivastava urged the youth to resist the use of addictive substances, pointing to the pressures of peer influence, family stress and personal challenges, a statement said.
Prof. Ashok Pradhan, the coordinator of the program, also spoke about the ill effects of drug abuse and shared his ongoing efforts to address the problem.
Professor Jitendra Kumar Premi, head of the department of anthropology, emphasized that drug abuse is a global problem, with India, especially its younger generation, facing serious consequences such as moral decline and the deterioration of physical health.
He noted that alcohol consumption has increased significantly in rural areas of Chhattisgarh during the last two decades, affecting the social and economic fabric of the state. Premi concluded his speech by emphasizing that overcoming drug use requires strong mental determination and political commitment.
