Sam Claflin makes first public appearance after ‘split’ from model girlfriend Cassie Amato at The Count Of Monte Cristo photocall in Rome

Sam Claflin made his first public appearance since reports emerged that he had split from his girlfriend of two years, Cassia Amato.

The 38-year-old actor joined the cast of The Count Of Monte Cristo at the photocall during the Rome Film Festival on Saturday, ahead of its release.

Sam takes on the role of young sailor, Edmond Dantès in the eight-part TV series which is expected to premiere later this year.

The Hollywood star put her personal life aside as she posed for photos alongside Jeremy Irons, Gabriella Pession, Karla-Simone Spence and Michele Riondino.

The Count of Monte Cristo is an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ short story of the same name that follows the story of a young man falsely imprisoned by his jealous “friend”.

Dantes, a sailor, is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Dantes’ girlfriend, Mercedes.

Dantes is imprisoned for 13 years in the island prison of Chateau d’If, where he plans to take revenge on those who betrayed him.

With the help of another prisoner, he escapes the island and transforms himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan for revenge.

The series will premiere at the 19th Rome Film Festival.

A film adaptation of the book premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Sam had ended his relationship with model Cassia, 30, with sources blaming their busy schedules and long distance for the end of their romance.

A source also told The Sun that Sam, best known for his roles in The Hunger Games and Peaky Blinders, is already looking for love again.

“It was his first proper relationship after splitting from wife Laura Haddock and they had a lot of fun together,” the source said.
