Aquatics World Cup: ‘Rusty’ Siobhan Haughey wins first race since Paris

Siobhan Haughey has returned to victory in her first race since representing Hong Kong at the Paris Olympics, this time taking gold in the women’s 200m freestyle final at the Aquatics World Cup in Shanghai.

Haughey hit the wall in one minute and 51.46 seconds in the short course event in which she is both the world record holder and world champion.

Canada’s Mary-Sophie Harvey was second, in 1:53.36, and China’s Kong Yaqi third in 1:55.21.

“(I) haven’t done a bit of short racing so I was a bit rusty (and) I wasn’t really expecting much, but I think it’s a good time,” Haughey said.

Haughey then switched to Mandarin to thank the local crowd for coming to the SPD BANK Oriental Sports Center and supporting all the athletes.
