In business this week, Tongu North MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised the alarm over what he describes as a high-level visa processing scandal involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana.

The lawmaker claimed the scandal was started by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, which he accuses of hastily signing a “dubious” visa processing contract in the last few weeks before leaving office.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on October 17, 2024, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa explained that the deal involved a; Access Citizens Services Ghana Limited has sparked outrage among diplomats and security officials.

Also, a trustee of the National Cathedral, Dr. Joyce Aryee, has described as ridiculous the claim that workers involved in the National Cathedral project should stop receiving salaries.

According to her, the stagnation of the project does not mean that the workers should not be paid.

He made this comment when he spoke to reporters on October 14, 2024.

“If the project is on hold, it doesn’t mean people aren’t working to maintain it. I won’t even comment on something as ridiculous as that,” he said in response to a question about why people are still getting paid despite the stoppage of the project.

He also stressed that although the project is not underway due to financial constraints, it will definitely happen.

In ‘dumsor’, Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited, an independent power producer, shut down its 560MW plant indefinitely due to a delay in payment to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a press release issued today, October 16, 2024, the company stated that the decision to shut down the power plant was a result of its inability to finance operations due to delayed payments from ECG.
