Vijay Varma admitted that he was bothered by how his negative roles have affected how people see him in real life. At SCREEN’s grand launch in Mumbai on Friday, Vijay recounted how “pretty girls and their mothers” have confessed to being scared of him, which has unsettled him. Known for his villainous characters in Darlings, Pink and the OTT serial Dahaad, Vijay shared that playing these “evil men” started with Pink. She recalled how that role, albeit a minor one, made a mark, especially at an all-female screening where she ran into actresses she had admired.

He said: “Many pretty girls and their mothers have told me that they are afraid of me, and it bothered me. The presentation of extremely evil men that I played started with Pink. It was a minor part, but I remember it very good because it was an all-female screening. All the actresses were present and I remember seeing people I had only seen on screen before.”

Vijay Varma talked about meeting singer Sunidhi Chauhan at the screening of Pink. He said that after the screening of the film, some people were crying. “Before the screening everyone was happy, but at the end, some were crying and others didn’t want to leave. I tried to console Sunidhi Chauhan, but she told me, “Don’t come near me.” I am very afraid of you. I said, ‘Oh my God, what happened?’ Then the manager pulled me aside and told me I did a good job.”

Vijay Varma’s big break came with his role as Moeen in Gully Boy (2019), which garnered him a lot of attention. After that, he became known for playing intense characters in projects like Darlings (2022), She, Mirzapur and the series Dahaad (2023), where he played a serial killer. Her performances in these roles have cemented her place as a rising star in the industry.

Vijay recently played a pivotal role in the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. It is based on true events that took place during the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 in 1999. The miniseries is based on the book Flight into Fear: A Captain’s Story by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury. Vijay played Captain Devi Sharan in the serial.
