Despite reports that The Hunt for Gollum would be two films, the producer has confirmed that this is not the case, although another Lord of the Rings film is in the works.

“I can definitely tell you that it’s not two movies!” Lord of the Rings screenwriter Philippa Boyens told Empire. “This was a real misunderstanding that happened because we’ve started working, conceptually, on two different live-action movies. The first is The Hunt for Gollum, the second is yet to be confirmed.”

Part of the reason why the idea that Hunt for Gollum would be two films spread is thanks to an interview with Gandalf himself, Sir Ian McKellan. “We’re playing with a number of ideas, but most of those ideas involve Gandalf,” Boyens added. “So Gandalf could come back for two live-action movies.”

This isn’t the end of the potential LOTR expansion either, with Boyens also teasing that more anime movies could happen if the upcoming War of the Rohirrim is a success. “We have an absolute blast of a second movie that would be amazing as an anime,” he said. “But let’s see if there’s an appetite.”

Of course, if you want more Gandalf now, The Rings of Power Season 2 has you covered. The mysterious stranger was revealed to be Istar at the end of Season 2. “I haven’t yet, no. Wow, chatting to Ian would be wonderful. I’d be so honored to do that,” she told us. unknown actor Daniel Weyman about whether he has contacted McKellan. “Everyone who has played wizards on screen has been extraordinary.”
