A former Liverpool player has been told he must leave his new club.

The star has been punished after he refused to board the team bus before a key game when he learned he was not named in the starting line-up.

Although his contract runs until the summer of 2026, it appears the player has no future at the club.

Although the player has stated that he has apologized for the incident, the club insist that the best solution would be for him to leave.

During his time at Liverpool, the star won a number of trophies including the Champions League and the Premier League.

Naby Keita has been told to leave Werder Bremen, according to Kicker.

Keita joined the German team as a free agent in June 2023 after his Liverpool contract expired.

The midfielder signed for Liverpool in 2018 and played 129 times for the Reds, scoring 11 goals.

Keita played just five times for Bremen last season, with injuries affecting his availability.

The Guinean international was livid after learning he was not starting for eventual Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in April.

Keita reportedly refused to board the team bus for the match, resulting in him being kicked out of the first team, while also receiving a club suspension.

Bremen head coach Ole Werner said Keita has to go.

Werner told Kicker: “I think we’ve been very, very human and very, very transparent with him at all times since he joined us.

“Keita is not our problem right now, and I think it’s best for both sides to look forward and to the future, to see what good solutions Naby can find for himself and what solutions we can find without him.”

Although Keita claimed he has apologized for the incident, Werner claimed he is not aware of it.

Werner said, “It could have somehow happened in the meantime, it just hadn’t gotten to me.”

Keita recently stated that he is not a player who lacks discipline. As reported by The Guardian, he said: “In my last year at Liverpool I didn’t play much and when I got here I was motivated. One day we will have to talk about the bus incident but everyone who knows me knows that I am professional and that I am not undisciplined.

“Despite everything, I apologized to the group even before the end of last season because we are all human and nobody is perfect. Wherever I have been, from Salzburg to Leipzig to Liverpool, I have always tried to be exemplary.”

“A lot of people say to me: ‘Naby, you’re injured, why don’t you want to play for Bremen?’ I tell him: ‘No, I’m fine’. Since I came back from the Africa Cup of Nations (in February), all I wanted to do was play for the fans and the club. But it’s not up to me.

“The club decided to put me with the under-23 team. I’m training with them and helping the youngsters while I wait for the wheels to turn. The fans have shown me a lot of love and they deserve to see me return that love on the pitch.”
