Get ready to see iconic actress Anita Dobson as you’ve never seen her before as she takes on a new role in a Channel 4 horror series.

The 75-year-old star is best known for being part of the original cast of EastEnders, playing landlady Angie Watts for three years from 1985.

She also became a surprise chart-topper when she reached No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart with ‘Anyone Can Fall in Love’, a song set to the show’s theme song.

A record 30.1 million viewers tuned in on Christmas Day 1986 to watch Angie’s love rat husband Den (Leslie Grantham) serve her with divorce papers.

Sadly, the character was killed off-screen by cirrhosis of the liver in 2002.

Since then, she has had a number of starring roles in television and film, including the mysterious Mrs Flood in Doctor Who. The character, who at first appeared to be an elderly and welcoming neighbor of Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), has since revealed a more mysterious side, and knows a lot about The Doctor.

Most recently, she took on the role of Janine in the new horror-comedy TV miniseries Generation Z.

The show follows an overturned army convoy outside a nursing home, which subsequently starts a chemical leak that appears to turn the OAP residents into zombies.

Anita can be seen covered in blood in footage from the production, which can be seen on Channel 4 now.

The six-part drama also stars Brookside and Coronation Street legend Sue Johnston and My Family’s Robert Lindsay.

Originally ordered in 2019, it did not go into production until the last quarter of 2023.

Channel 4 commissioner Rebecca Holdsworth said at the time: “We are so excited that (writer) Ben Wheatley has chosen C4 as the venue to make his first original TV drama.

“Generation Z promises to have all the unique visual style and mischievous spirit that characterizes Ben’s film work – at the same time wickedly funny, deftly political and offering the kind of surprises and thrills that make this shaping up to be a zombie drama like no other.”
