The MUT says the teacher involved in the ‘sex for marks’ scandal is suspended

The MUT issued a statement on Friday morning following a report by the Daily News about allegations that brands were being traded for sexual favors and money.

Dozens of civil engineering students were reported to have been victimized by the professor, who the university says was suspended earlier this month pending the outcome of an investigation.

The university said it has “intentionally kept the matter confidential as maintaining trust and protecting the rights of individuals is of the utmost importance”.

“We believe that maintaining confidentiality at this stage would encourage potential witnesses to come forward with evidence crucial to the investigation,” MUT continued.

“The vice chancellor and principal, who has consistently emphasized her commitment to an empathetic and inclusive leadership style, has made it clear that any allegations of misconduct will be taken seriously.”

The MUT promised to provide updates on its investigation “when appropriate”.
