Mark Robinson vs. Josh Stein’s chances in North Carolina: Poll

North Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s chances of defeating Democrat Josh Stein in the state’s gubernatorial election appear slim, according to new polling results.

Stein, North Carolina’s attorney general, received the support of 49.3 percent of likely North Carolina voters in a poll released by Carolina Magazine on Thursday, while Robinson received just 35.8 percent support. The 13.5 percentage point deficit was a significant reversal for Robinson, who led Stein in the same poll by 5 points in May.

The Carolina Magazine The poll was not the worst recent poll result for Robinson. A Morning Consult poll this week showed the Republican trailing the Democrat by 22 points. The poll of likely voters in North Carolina found that 54 percent supported Stein, while only 32 percent supported Robinson.

Newsweek The Robinson and Stein campaigns were reached by email for comment Thursday evening.

Support for Robinson collapsed after a CNN report last month uncovered a series of posts he allegedly made on a porn website. The posts included Robinson allegedly calling himself a “black Nazi”, praising Adolf Hitler’s Nazi manifesto. Mein Kampf and fondly recalling “watching” the women in the bathrooms.

Only one poll released since the scandal broke has shown anything more than a double-digit lead for Stein: a poll by The Telegraph/Redfield & Wilton Strategies which featured Robinson by 7 points earlier this week.

Robinson has rejected calls to drop out of the gubernatorial race and continues to deny making any of the posts, despite CNN extensively documenting evidence that appears to link him to posts made under the username “minisoldr” more than ‘a decade in “Nude Africa”. ” website.

The lieutenant governor, who has described CNN’s reports as “table trash,” sued the network for defamation earlier this week. The lawsuit alleges that CNN published the allegations “despite knowing or recklessly ignoring” that the information linking Robinson to the posts was “previously compromised by multiple data breaches.”

Robinson has also sued the lead singer of a North Carolina punk band who alleged before the CNN report that the then-future lieutenant governor bought pornography at a store where the singer worked in the early 1990s of the 2000s.

Although Stein had already been leading the polls for months before the CNN report was published, the emergence of the scandal has significantly widened his lead. It has also raised concerns about the negative impact on the chances of other Republicans running for office in North Carolina this year.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, enthusiastically endorsed Robinson and previously praised him as “Martin Luther King on steroids.” However, Robinson has been notably absent from Trump campaign events in North Carolina since the scandal broke.
