Sky star Angel Reese shares how she handles comparisons to Fever’s Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever Guard Caitlin Clark and the forward of the Chicago Sky Angel Reese have been at the center of the WNBA’s growing popularity over the past year. With their rivalry heightened by the media and fans, both stars have to endure comparisons and insults. However, Reese has found one healthy way to deal with the noise.

The Sky striker opened up to the Wall Street Journal about how he deals with the comparison off the pitch. “I try to separate myself from everyone else and try to be me, and not focus on what other people are doing.” he said in a video shared by the WSJ.

“I think that’s why people love me, for who I am, because I’m not the same as the next person. And I think that’s special. You don’t want the same person, you don’t want everyone to be the same.” she added.

And just being able to step out of my comfort zone and being able to talk about things that maybe other people don’t want to talk about, or just being able to do things that a lot of people are afraid to do. I think being able to wake up every day and know that Inspiring many young women is something I hope to do,she concluded.

Both athletes were first-round draft picks, and both had strong seasons. While both pointed to the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Awardit was Clark who eventually took home the award, boosted by the Fever reaching the Playoffs. Meanwhile, Reese had to end his season early due to a wrist injury.

Before playing the WNBAReese and Clark already had an NCAA championship rivalry. In the 2023 final, Reese, then playing at LSU, waved his hand in front of his face while looking at Iowa’s Clark. The Chicago Sky star opened up about what now think about that moment.

“Me and Caitlin have played against each other since we were kids. It’s just a full circle moment of how women view themselves when it comes to trash talking,” he said to the dam. “In men’s sports it’s fine. We’re going to normalize that in women’s sports as well. So it’s just super competitive. I think we’re two great competitors.” she said
