SAFFORD – The fourth annual Safford Oktoberfest takes place on the lawn in front of Safford City Hall this Saturday, rounding out a full day of fun for the whole family.

“It’s in conjunction with Harvest Fest,” said Matt Hoshal, chairman of the Safford Employees United Way committee. “You have the family activities, the kids activities at the beginning of the day and then more of the adult nightlife (at Oktoberfest). We have two really good bands this year.”

Oktoberfest will feature the crowd-favorite stein-holding game, where the person who can hold a jug full of water with their straight arm wins the longest, and the stein-carrying game to see who can carry the most jugs full of water at the same time.

Plus, the popular cornhole tournament is back, as well as the beer garden, along with vendors and food trucks.

The event is a Safford employee fundraiser for the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.

The Harvest Festival opens the day, with free family-friendly activities including pumpkin carving, a costume contest, pumpkin rides and cornhole tournaments for kids.

There will also be performances by Gila Valley All-Star Cheer, Extreme Martial Arts and the Gila Valley Chorale.

The Harvest Festival is from 10:00 to 15:00 and the Oktoberfest is from 15:00 to 23:00.
