Latest Middle East: Online images appear to show Yahya Sinwar’s body, killing Hamas leader would be ‘massive’ for war | world news

Rossi says the news that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar may have been killed could prompt Hezbollah to signal that it is willing to “make compromises.”

“Certainly, the people I’ve been talking to suggest that this may be a path to de-escalation. Now, it may be a winding path. It may take some time, but now you have an event and a possibility where you can see a way out of this crisis,” he says.

He explains that Hezbollah is “not the same fighting force” they were before Israel’s operation in Lebanon earlier this month.

“They’ve been exposed and they’ve been penetrated by Israeli intelligence, and they’ve shown themselves to be quite weak in many places,” he adds.

“Certainly, the Israelis may very well think that this is the time to try to reshape the Middle East, get whatever they can and change this status quo.

“They are definitely ahead when it comes to the fight.

“They want to show that they have confidence and that they are back.”
