New Middle Eastern cafe opens in Allen Park – The News Herald

When Anwar Qazzaz first walked into Qazzaz Coffee in Allen Park, tears filled his eyes. It was the realization of a dream that took 75 years to come true.

After the 1948 Palestine War, Qazzaz could not find work in his home country. So he ventured to Brazil hoping to find something to do for a living. He lived among farmers and was fascinated by coffee. After about a year, Qazzaz moved to the Middle East and lived in Kuwait. In 1965, he opened his first coffee tower. He mastered a unique coffee blend that is still used today.

Qazzaz and his family lived in Kuwait until 1994 when the Gulf War ended and he decided to move his family to the United States. Qazzaz began roasting beans in Detroit and selling them at local markets and local restaurants.

Then, in September 2024, he watched as his son opened the first Qazzaz Coffee in Allen Park.

“He loves it, he cries when he sees it for the first time,” Qazzaz’s son Mohammad Qazzaz said of his father’s first visit to the cafe.

Qazzaz’s 1965 coffee blend was perfected into a unique and special blend that is still used today.

“We have a lot of people trying so hard to figure out what we use,” Mohammad Qazzaz said.

He said operating the coffee shop is very different from what he and his father were doing just roasting and selling their coffee blend.
