Coney Island power outage: FDNY crews check for people who may be trapped in elevators

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (WABC) — A major power outage in Coney Island is affecting several buildings Wednesday.

FDNY officials say crews are responding to 252 Avenue X at Shell Road after receiving calls about downed wires around 3:30 p.m.

NewsCopter 7 passed several scenes in the Gravesend section where downed wires were visible.

Officials say the incident caused a power outage at Coney Island and there are now numerous reports of blocked elevators in surrounding areas.

FDNY crews are working to see if anyone is trapped in these elevators.

Con Edison estimates there are about 2,700 customers without power.

Operations are ongoing.
