After going viral for his portrayal of legendary New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski on the FX series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandezactor Laith Wallschleger will play the role of another famous NFL tight end.

According to Emily Longeretta of varietyLifetime announced the cast Tuesday for its upcoming Christmas movie titled Christmas in the spotlightwhich is based on the real-life relationship of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and global pop sensation Taylor Swift, and will feature Wallschleger.

Wallschleger will play the role of Drew, who is a professional football player and is heavily inspired by Kelce, while Jessica Lord will play Bowyn, who is a megastar musician like Swift.

The film will debut on Nov. 23 as part of “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime,” which is Lifetime’s annual holiday movie blitz that runs from Nov. 16 through Christmas Day.

Wallschleger recently put himself on the map with his over-the-top portrayal of Gronk on the FX series based on the rise and fall of Patriots tight end and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez.

Gronkowski himself gave his opinion on Wallschleger’s performance cuts during an appearance Up & Adams with Kay Adams:

what?? 🤯 Turns out the actor plays @RobGronkowski on FX’s “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” is Rob’s friend and stunt double Laith. 😂

Gronk disclosed that he and Wallschleger are indeed friends in real life and gave Wallschleger credit for a quality performance:

“It was definitely over the top. Do you want to know a fun fact about that clip? That’s my good friend Laith who’s playing me there. I’ve known him for about 14 years and he definitely went above and beyond, and I feel like he’s a perfect fit with the show, especially with all the other characters and Coach (Bill) Belichick and just seeing (Patriots owner) Robert Kraft also, like I said, a little over the top for sure, but he played a big part in how it went produce this show.”

While Wallschleger was responsible for bringing Gronk to life American Sports Storyhe feels he has more creative license Christmas in the spotlight.

Instead of playing Kelce specifically, he’s just playing a character based on Kelce, so it’s possible he could put his own spin on it.

Although Travis and Taylor will not be mentioned by name Christmas in the spotlightseems to be Lifetime’s most popular movie of the season, as Chiefs fans and Swifties will definitely want to experience the crazy romance in movie form.
