Former MTV VJ Ananda Lewis' breast cancer has progressed to stage 4 after refusing to remove her tumor

Those who grew up in the late 90s and saw MTV may recall former VJ Ananda Lewis. The 51-year-old revealed her cancer has progressed to stage four after refusing a double mastectomy.

Lewis shared her health update with Stephanie Elam and Sara Sidner, who is also battling breast cancer, during a discussion on CNN on Tuesday, October 15.

“My plan at first was to remove excess toxins from my body. I felt my body is smart, I know it’s true. Our bodies are brilliantly made,” she shared. “I decided to keep my tumor and try to get it out of my body in a different way. Looking back, I’m like, ‘You know what? Maybe I should have.'”

As for the holistic healing approaches Lewis took over the past two years, he engaged in “aggressive homeopathic therapies” in addition to altering his diet and sleep habits. The VJ also received “traditional drugs and radiation.” while Anada briefly saw improvements in her health, the cancer spread and is now stage 4.

“My lymphatic system really exploded. And so all over my abdomen, all those lymphs were really inflamed, my collarbone,” Lewis said. “It was the first time I had a conversation with death because I felt, ‘This is how it ends.’ You know, I was like, ‘Okay, so I’m not afraid of things.’

The mother of one continued: “I said, ‘Fudge, man, I really thought I had this.’ I was frustrated, I was kind of mad at myself, and I said, ‘Man, listen.’ I know you’re coming to pick me up sometime. But I don’t want it to be now. I promise I’ll make it fun for you when you come. I literally couldn’t get out of bed for eight weeks.

Some fans may remember that the former TV personality initially revealed that she had cancer in 2020. At the time, doctors recommended that she get a mastectomy, which she refused. “There are certain things that I know I’m not going to be okay with, and I know myself. I want to be here, and so I had to do it a certain way, for me,” he said.

Lewis also admitted that avoiding mammograms for years out of fear of radiation was a mistake.

“If I had had my mammograms from the time I was recommended when I turned 40, they would have caught the tumor in my breast a year before I found it through my own breast exam, self-exam and thermography “, he said. “And they would have taken him in a place where he was more manageable, where treatment would have been a little easier.”

Ananda has a son, Langston, who was born in 2011. She had him with Harry Smith, who is the brother of actor Will Smith. In 2020, he shared that Langstin was his motivation to fight.

“I have a 9-year-old that I need to be here for,” Lewis shared in an Instagram video. “I have no intention of leaving him,” says the TV personality. “I don’t want to leave any of my children.”
