FCT, Abuja – The National Assembly has called for the questioning of the Libyan ambassador and an apology from the North African authorities for the ill-treatment of the Super Eagles players at Al-Abraq International Airport.

The chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Sumaila Kawu, said action is necessary to prevent such occurrences.

According to The Punch, Kawu stated this while raising the issue during plenary under Personal Explanation at the Red Chamber on Tuesday, October 15.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, described the ill-treatment of the Super Eagles as “terrible and condemnable”.

“We don’t want a diplomatic dispute. We ask the ambassador and the authorities to come out and apologize for what they have done to our team.”

The House of Representatives also tasked its Committee on Foreign Affairs and Sports to investigate the incident.

The Green House called on the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to invite the Libyan ambassador to Nigeria for questioning over the incident.

The federal lawmakers also called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to lodge an official complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Chairman/CEO of the Commission on Nigerians in Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, reacted to the disturbing situation of the Super Eagles players in Libya.

Dabiri-Erewa said road travel in Libya was dangerous given the war-torn country’s situation.

He said the safety of the Super Eagles players was paramount to the country, urging CAF to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
