Here are five underpasses to avoid in Bengaluru when it rains

Pantur Railway Underpass

Located east of Bengaluru, the Panthur railway underpass has been a nightmare for commuters when it rains. Even after a mild shower, the crucial underpass fills with water and makes it impossible for two- and four-wheelers to travel. As it connects major IT parks to the Outer Ring Road, it usually sees a large number of vehicles as commuters consider it a shortcut from the Whitefield area to Bellandur and Marathahalli.

Madiwala Ayyappa Underpass

This underpass is another crucial road that gets bogged down during rain. The area frequently sees heavy vehicles due to large constructions and industries, which get stuck on the road, causing severe traffic jams on the Hosur road when it rains. On Wednesday, traffic police advised people to avoid driving on the underpass due to slow traffic.

Devinagar Railway Bridge Underpass

This is another underpass that often faces water, making travel a pain in north Bangalore. Recent rains also left the underpass submerged, and traffic police alerted commuters. “Traffic slow due to water spillage on Devinagar railway bridge towards outer ring road, kindly cooperate,” Bangalore traffic police said.

KR Circle Underpass

This underpass has a history of death during the Bengaluru rains of 2023. A 23-year-old woman drowned after a car she was traveling in with her family got stuck in neck-deep water in the underpass in KR Circle in Bangalore in May last year. BBMP officials started closing the underpasses during rains after this incident.

Hennur Underpass

This is another north Bangalore underpass that airport travelers also use to get in and out of the city. It turns into a disaster when Bengaluru sees light rain on a given day, making life difficult for techies at the Manyata Technology Park commuting to work and home.
