Marshfield’s non-profit Teamsters pitch in to deliver Hurricane Helene relief supplies to North Carolina

Marshfield and surrounding communities worked together to send truckloads of relief supplies Tuesday to people recovering from the wreckage of Hurricane Helene.

Donna Green, founder and executive director of Magical Moon Farm and Foundation, said the idea to collect donations came to her after seeing the devastation in North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

“I had been through this kind of disaster myself, and I knew how devastated they would be without homes and basic items and I thought about the situation with the water and the mud and all that,” Green said. “So I made a list of all the things they could use and started posting on social media.”

New traveled fast, Green said. One post received 150 shares, then another 175 and a third 130.

When the last truck left Tuesday, the Teamsters said, the community gathered a bunch of critical supplies, including chainsaws, generators, lawn mowers, work gloves, wasp spray, water waders, quality hay from horses, buckets, fence repair materials, water and more.

Along with Magical Moon Farm and Foundation, which supports children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, the Teamsters stepped in to help reduce supplies, and the founder of M&M Transport rented a truck to bring in more.

“Hurricane Helene caused severe infrastructure damage in western North Carolina and rebuilding will be a long and difficult process,” said Teamsters Local 25 President Thomas Mari. “Teamsters Local 25 will continue to push relief supplies and support all efforts to help those suffering from the unimaginable impacts of this storm.”

Teamsters Local 25 drove another truck with donated water and baby wipes to the region just over a week earlier.

The trucks will take the supplies donated in Marshfield to the Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief Distribution and Distribution Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina, for distribution.
