Aryna Sabalenka’s comparisons to Serena Williams will grow after striking a deal with the same watch sponsor

Aryna Sabalenka’s comparisons to Serena Williams will grow after striking a deal with the same watch sponsor

Aryna Sabalenka has been unstoppable this season, steadily raising her level on the biggest stages. Winning two Grand Slams, along with other trophies this calendar year, has earned her widespread praise in the tennis community. Her impressive performances have even attracted a major sponsor, who is also associated with Serena Williams.

After making headlines with her Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ‘Rainbow’ watch at the 2024 US Open final, the three-time Grand Slam champion has secured sponsorship from the luxury watch brand herself.

Sabalenka visited Switzerland as part of her welcome to the Audemars Piguet family. Apparently, the Belarusian player had a great time taking the tour of the AP headquarters. He also shared a compilation video of his visit.

Sabalenka wrote on Instagram, expressing her delight at teaming up with the watch brand: “So excited and honored to join the @audemarspiguet family. Thank you for showing me around your beautiful grounds in Switzerland.”

It was surprising that even after being a big name in women’s tennis, Sabalenka did not have a watch sponsor. But with Audemars Piguet now on board, it’s clear he got one of the best. The brand has a history of association with the greatest female player of all time.

Serena’s association with Audemars Piguet

Serena’s association with the luxury brand has been going on for a decade now after she began her journey as an ambassador in 2014. After landing every possible AP model, Serena has also created some of her own col· lessons in collaboration with them. After Serena, Sabalenka is the biggest tennis name associated with AP, so it is a matter of pride for her.

This has given the tennis world another opportunity to compare the Belarusian with the American legend. Numerous pundits have previously drawn similarities between the two players due to their style of play, with John McEnroe calling them the “best hitters” he has ever seen.

“These are two of the greatest hitters to ever play the women’s game. I think Sabalenka has improved her movement a lot, but I don’t think she’s as athletic as Serena at her best. But it’s getting closer,” the seven-time Grand Slam champion told Eurosport.

McEnroe is not wrong here. In terms of athleticism, few can match the level that Serena displayed in her early years. While Sabalenka bears similarities to the American legend, she still has a long way to go before such comparisons can be made on a regular basis.
