Trump calls ’60 Minutes’ edition ‘biggest scandal in broadcast history’

The show has had a tradition of interviewing candidates from both the Republican and Democratic tickets since 1968. This cycle, only Harris sat down with the network, as Trump’s team declined an offer for an in-person interview. Trump and Harris have already debated for the last time this election cycle.

Before the interview aired, CBS promoted the episode with a clip of Harris giving a lengthy response to a question about Israel. However, during the televised interview, the response was reduced. Trump appeared in the Complete shipping podcast, who went live on Monday to air his grievances against the network.

60 minutes (Harris) gives a horrible answer, and they change the answer. I think it’s the biggest scandal in the history of broadcasting — they actually took out his answer and gave him a different answer after he fired,” Trump said. “It’s turned out to be a scandal, but I think it’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen in broadcasting. No. 1, it’s an election interference, and it’s supposed to be a license free press, fair press and honesty”.

An outcry to release the full transcript of the interview has gained traction online. According to an October poll by Harvard Caps Harris, 85 percent of respondents across all parties agreed that the network should release the transcript.

However, those same respondents were split on why the network would edit the clip in the first place. 53% said it was to improve Harris, while another 47% said it was fair and objective in its editing.

Although CBS News’ Scott Pelley said he had plans to sit down with Trump for an interview, the Trump campaign denied any appointment had ever been set. At the time, the campaign also took issue with the “jump cuts” the network might make to Trump’s answers.

While Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) appeared on the TV show, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) did not make a similar appearance. Trump announced in July that Vance was his running mate.
