Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised Pakistan debutant hero Kamran Ghulam for his resilient century in the second Test against England on October 12, drawing comparisons between the 29-year-old’s batting style and Australian Steve Smith. Ghulam, who came into his Test debut as a replacement for Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam, made an immediate impact with a huge and crucial 192-ball hundred, impressing fans and former cricketers alike.

Speaking to Sky Cricket, Nasser Hussain praised Ghulam’s ability to navigate England’s bowling attack, switching effortlessly between attacking and defensive intent. Hussain highlighted Ghulam’s “swagger” at the crease, noting how he showed remarkable control and intent in a tricky throw from Multan.

“He had to wait his turn. He has been scoring prolific runs in the last three years. He got the right balance between attack and defence. They lost a couple of early wickets – on debut, you want to get out and that will have helped. him,” said Nasser Hussain.

“Pakistan players in general love the sweep shot, he’s got it in his locker. He used his feet too. He’s got a bit of Steve Smith when he defends the ball and charges. He’s got a bit of drag.” Nasser Hussain added.

Pakistan were in early trouble at 19 for 2, though Kamran Ghulam’s determined hundred he took the team to the court. His 118-ball 224 was crucial in taking Pakistan to 259 for 5 at the end of Day 1.
