Latest Middle East: Hezbollah warns of new direction to make Israel ‘feel pain’; Number 10 reacts to Cameron’s sanctions revelation | world news

Naim Kassem, Hezbollah’s acting leader, says the group has adopted a new “calculation” or strategy in the past week.

The strategy has focused on making Israel feel “pain,” he said, without offering much detail.

On Sunday, a Hezbollah attack killed four Israeli soldiers inside Israel.

Kassem also said that since Israel has attacked various parts of Lebanon, Hezbollah has the right to attack any part of Israel.

What could be the new ‘calculation’?

In our 6.35am post, we described the new tactics used by Hezbollah observed by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in its rocket and drone campaign against Israel.

In order to get its rockets and drones past the defenses, Hezbollah has begun using “indirect fire,” the ISW said.

He cited examples where Hezbollah launched a combination of offensive drones, rockets and precision missiles at one city, while launching other attacks elsewhere.

This tactic, where “inaccurate indirect fire” is used to mask precision attacks elsewhere, is increasingly common among Iranian proxy groups, ISW said.

“The development of this tactic is a byproduct of Hezbollah’s year-long learning process during its arson campaign targeting civilian and military sites in northern Israel since October 2023,” he said.
