2 men arrested in utility trap that left Detroit-area man dead

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) – A second suspect was arrested Monday in the slaying of a suburban Detroit man who let two men into his home after they said they were utility workers checking a water leak. gas, authorities said.

The suspect was arrested during a traffic stop in Plymouth Township, west of Detroit, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said.

“We continue to work through every detail and hope that the defendants will be held fully accountable for their heinous actions,” Bouchard said.

Hussein Murray, 72, was killed Friday in his basement in Rochester Hills. His wife’s hands were bound with duct tape. Detectives have not determined if anything was stolen.

Investigators said two suspects had a clipboard with a utility logo on it when they knocked on Murray’s door, first Thursday and then Friday. The main suspect was arrested Saturday in Caddo Parish, Louisiana.

He is expected to appear in a Louisiana court on Tuesday, the first step toward an eventual transfer to Michigan, the sheriff’s office said.

Home security video helped detectives identify the couple.
