Phone comparisons: Google Pixel 9 Pro vs Xiaomi 14: Design

Looking at the two phones from the front, you’ll notice a lot of similarities. Both devices have a flat display with a centered display camera hole and thin bezels. Also, both have rounded corners and a similar curvature of those corners as well. You will notice that the physical buttons are located on the right side of both smartphones. The thing is, the Pixel 9 Pro has its power/lock key above the volume keys. It’s the other way around with the Xiaomi 14.

The sides are also flat on both phones, all around. The frame edges on the sides are slightly rounded, however, on both devices. The back of the Pixel 9 Pro is flat, while the back of the Xiaomi 14 is mostly flat, although it does get rounded towards the edges, on all sides. It has a so-called micro-curved design. You’ll notice a major difference when you look at the camera island of the two devices.

The Pixel 9 Pro has a pill-shaped cutout that sits horizontally across the top of the phone’s back. It contains three cameras and sticks out quite a bit. The camera island of the Xiaomi 14 is kind of square, but with rounded corners. It is located in the upper left corner and also houses three cameras. Both phones are made of aluminum and glass, and both devices are very slippery indeed. Note that the Xiaomi 14 also comes in a model with a vegan leather back plate, but only in China.

They’re exactly the same height-wise, while the Pixel 9 Pro is less than a millimeter wider and thicker. Google’s smartphone weighs 11 or 6 grams more, depending on which variant of the Xiaomi 14 we compare it to. Both are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Phone comparisons: Google Pixel 9 Pro vs Xiaomi 14: Display

The Google Pixel 9 Pro features a 6.3-inch 2856 x 1280 OLED LTPO display. This display is flat and supports HDR10+ content. It also comes with a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits. It offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The aspect ratio of the screen is 20:9, while the screen-to-body ratio is around 87%. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 sits on top of the screen and protects it.

The Xiaomi 14, meanwhile, features a 6.36-inch 2670 x 1200 OLED LTPO display. This panel is also flat and has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This display also supports HDR10+ content and has a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits. The screen aspect ratio is 20:9 and the screen-to-body ratio is around 89%. The Xiaomi 14 has slightly thinner bezels, which is why. Gorilla Glass Victus protects this panel.

Both of these screens are excellent. Not only are they very bright, but they are vivid and have great viewing angles. They are also sharp enough and have those inky blacks that people love. Tactile response is very good on both. These two panels are on par, they’re both great, so… it doesn’t matter which one you choose.

Phone comparisons: Google Pixel 9 Pro vs Xiaomi 14: Performance

The Google Pixel 9 Pro is powered by the Google Tensor G4 processor. This is Google’s new 4nm chip. In this case, it’s paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The Xiaomi 14 is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm’s 4nm chip, and remains the most powerful the company has to offer. Xiaomi paired it with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM (up to 12GB outside China) and UFS 4.0 flash storage. Neither phone offers expandable storage.

Performance is excellent on both devices, especially when it comes to common, everyday tasks. Both smartphones are very nimble and can jump between apps like no other. They also open apps very quickly and can do all basic and advanced tasks without any problem. This happens with messaging, e-mail, image editing, video editing, browsing, multimedia consumption, etc.

When it comes to gaming, however, the Xiaomi 14 has an edge. That chip inside makes all the difference when it comes to really demanding games. The Xiaomi 14 handles them better than the Pixel 9 Pro. When it comes to non-graphically demanding games, and mid-level games, it really doesn’t matter which phone runs them. Both get hot when you’re gaming, especially the demanding ones. However, this heat does not affect the performance of either, at least not visibly.

Phone comparisons: Google Pixel 9 Pro vs Xiaomi 14: Battery

A 4,700 mAh battery is inside the Google Pixel 9 Pro. The Xiaomi 14, on the other hand, has a 4,610 mAh battery inside. These are good battery capacities considering the screen sizes of these two phones. In fact, both devices offer very good battery life, which is great to see with smartphones that aren’t that big. The Xiaomi 14 was slightly better during our tests, but not by much.

You can cross the 7 hours screen time mark with these two devices, but it all depends on your usage and some other aspects. If you throw games into the mix, you’ll fly below that level. With our usage we were able to get about 7 hours comfortably, with Wi-Fi used most of the time and good cell reception. We didn’t play games on those days either, but we did use both phones in a number of other ways, with a lot of camera use.

In terms of charging, the Pixel 9 Pro supports 27W wireless charging, 21W wireless charging (with Pixel Stand), 12W Qi wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The Xiaomi 14 It supports 90W wired, 50W wireless and 10W reverse wireless charging. The Xiaomi 14 can be charged faster in every way, and it also comes with a charger in the box, which we can’t say of the Pixel 9 Pro.

Phone comparisons: Google Pixel 9 Pro vs Xiaomi 14: Cameras

Both companies included three cameras in these phones. The Pixel 9 Pro has a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.31-inch camera sensor, f/1.7 aperture, OIS), a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (123-degree FoV), and a 48 megapixel periscope telephoto camera (5x optical zoom, OIS). The Xiaomi 14 features a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.31-inch camera sensor, f/1.7 aperture, OIS), a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (115-degree FoV), and a of 50 megapixel telephoto lens (3.2x). optical zoom, OIS, macro).

Both the smartphones do a good job when it comes to photography. Both like to deliver contrasty shots, although those of the Xiaomi 14 seem closer to reality. The Pixel 9 Pro throws a lot more processing into the mix, for better or for worse. The images on both smartphones are vivid, although once again the Xiaomi 14 is closer to real life. Both do a great job in low light, though the Pixel 9 Pro likes to keep things a bit brighter than the Xiaomi 14. It’s a matter of preference which style you like better. The influence of Leica is visible in the Xiaomi 14.

Its ultra-wide cameras do a good job of maintaining a color profile similar to that of the main shooters. They do a good job in both good and low light, but the Pixel 9 Pro does a better job overall, especially in low light. The Xiaomi 14 lacks a periscope telephoto camera, but it can compete and especially win at sub-5x zoom levels. And that goes for all lighting situations. Google easily wins in all of this.

audio

Yes, both smartphones have stereo speakers, although neither of them comes with an audio jack. These stereo speakers are good for both smartphones and have a similar level of loudness, although the Pixel 9 Pro is slightly better in this regard. Sound quality is good on both sides.

Considering there’s no audio jack, you can use its Type-C ports to connect your wired headphones. If not, there’s always Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. The Pixel 9 Pro has Bluetooth 5.3 support, while the Xiaomi 14 comes with Bluetooth 5.4.
