Checking the harvest season, what is the yield?

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — With autumn comes agriculture, and lots of it.

Peoria County Farm Bureau Manager Charlie Hensley shares the harvest progress of Peoria County farmers.

“We’re in the middle of corn across the county, like wrapping soybeans,” Hensley said. “Now we’re in mid-October. I see things wrapping up, you know, early November.”

The next few days will be cold, with more chances of frost and frost.

How to protect plants in case of frost

Hensley gives his take on how crops have reacted to the weather so far.

“The way the weather has cooperated lately, I think we’re in a good place,” he said. “I don’t think it will start snowing soon. I know there have been expectations that it will be a cold winter, I’ve heard that. So we’ll see how it moves as we go further into this fall, but for now, I think we’re in a good position.”

Hensley also says he wants farmers to end the season “on a high note” by staying safe and taking safety precautions, including making sure your fire extinguisher is up to date.
