Jamie Foxx made an emotional return to the stage a year after experiencing a terrifying health scare.

“God is good… As I post these photos, my heart and soul are filled with nothing but pure joy,” she captioned 56 behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot of her upcoming stand-up special up. One more chance: a night with Jamie Foxxvia Instagram on Monday, October 14. “On October 3rd and 5th, I had the opportunity to tell my side of the story and there was no better place than Atlanta, Georgia.”

The actor thanked his Atlanta audience, writing: “I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was nothing but pure love and that’s what you were.” .

Foxx went on to note that while his special is a stand-up show, it’s also “an artistic account of something that went horribly wrong, but thanks to the great people of Atlanta, especially at the Hospital Piedmont, you allowed me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most.”

Among the snaps in the Instagram slideshow, Foxx was photographed apparently wiping away tears, hugging audience members and playing a song on the piano.

In the special, which will later stream on Netflix, Foxx will “share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart and inspiration,” according to a Sept. 2 post on the actor’s Instagram page. “Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs and everything in between. Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection and genuine connection.”

Jamie announced the special was underway in March, almost a year after his daughter Corinne revealed her father had suffered a “medical complication”. Jamie’s health scare occurred during the production of his i Cameron Diazthe next Netflix movie, Back to action. He was released from the hospital in May 2023. (Jamie shares Corinne, 30, with Connie Kline and daughter Anelise, 16 years old, with Kristin Grannis.)

Jamie has yet to publicly reveal the exact cause of his health problem, but revealed during his first public appearance in December 2023 that he “couldn’t walk” for some time after the incident.

In July, Foxx told a group of fans in Phoenix that he “went out for 20 days” after experiencing a “headache” in April 2023. “I don’t remember anything,” he said in footage of social networks.

“I won’t say it on camera. Yeah. I won’t say it on camera. But it was…” he added before shrugging.

Jamie was back on his feet to walk Corinne down the aisle at their wedding in September Joe Hooten. “It was incredibly special, given her health scare last year. I walked down (the aisle) to a string version of ‘Georgia on My Mind’ by Ray CharlesCorinne said Vogue in an interview published on October 3. “My father won the Oscar for playing (Charles in Ray) in 2005. At 10 years old I was his plus one and I was able to share that special moment with him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we walked down the hall.”

Jamie hosted her daughter’s big day at her home in Thousand Oaks, California. “It was never a question. We always knew we were getting married in my dad’s backyard,” Corinne said of their ceremony. “It has the most beautiful property. It already looks like a wedding venue. We couldn’t think of a more special place than a home wedding. It just felt right.”
