The famous Ruby case was one of the most talked about political and judicial scandals in Italian history, which took place between 2010 and 2011. It involved Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who was investigated for a series of sexual encounters with Karima, who in the time was still one minor.

The scandal led to the start of 3 trials, two of which accused Berlusconi of the crimes of extortion and child prostitution (Ruby trial first) and corruption in judicial acts (Ruby trial three). After being sentenced in the first instance to 7 years, Berlusconi was acquitted of the charges. Berlusconi was then acquitted at first instance in the Ruby Three trial, an acquittal for which the prosecutor appealed to the Supreme Court. In a third trial (Ruby trial two), Emilio Fede, Lele Mora and Nicole Minetti were definitively convicted of promoting prostitution. The Ruby case gained national and international media attention.
