WNBA fans angry as game cuts to ‘Wheel of Fortune’: ‘Ready to start a riot’

Hell hath no fury like a basketball fan scorned…

Fans were outraged Sunday when Game 2 of the WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx was cut short at 5 p.m. Wheel of Fortune

Newsweek have contacted ABC, which was broadcasting the game, for comment on why this interruption occurred.

Predictably, fans weren’t happy with the change and it looks like the schedule returned to the WNBA just in time for one fan.

“@ABCNetwork came back to the WNBA just in time because I was ready to start a riot when ‘Wheel of Fortune’ came on with 2 minutes left,” fan Irie DC wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Other fans were also up in arms. One of them wrote: “ABC WTF IS RUNNING THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE ON MY SCREEN AND TURNING THE WNBA FINAL GAME BACK ON.”

Another commented: “OH I KNOW ABC didn’t cut the game Wheel of Fortune. Who pushed the wrong button????

“WITH ABC?! You cut out of the game for Wheel of Fortune?!” and “I can’t believe ABC pulled the trigger with 2 minutes left in a close Game 2 of the WNBA Finals,” were other responses on social media .

Other fans were even angrier, using some pretty colorful language.

Elsewhere on social media, sparks were also flying.

On Reddit, one user posted: “They would never drop in an NBA playoff game Wheel of Fortune (let alone) with less than 3 minutes remaining in a game.”

Wheel of Fortune Stoppages aside, it was a close game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

In the end, the Liberty took home the win, beating the Lynx 80-66.

Since the Lynx got an overtime win in Game 1, that means the WNBA Finals are now tied 1-1.

Liberty’s Breanna Stewart led her team to victory with 21 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

That means games three and four will now be played in Minneapolis. If there is a fifth and final game, it will be restricted to the Barclays Center in New York.

The question of who will win the WNBA Finals is being hotly debated. The Liberty might be the number 1 seed and the favorite to win, but the Lynx took home the 2024 Commissioner’s Cup championship.

Both teams are also led by champions. Stewart and Napheesa Collier of the Liberty and Lynx, respectively, helped Team USA bring home the gold at the Paris Olympics in August. Collier and Stewart are former UConn teammates.
