The BBC reveals the first look at the new spin-off of The Split ahead of the show’s return

The BBC has revealed the first look The Splitthe new spin-off of.

The two-part BBC One special will see Nicola Walker return as Hannah Stern, joining the rest of the Defoe family for a destination wedding that will bring dramatic secrets to the surface.

Newly released footage from the BBC shows how life has changed for the Defoe family two years after the break-up of Hannah and ex-husband Nathan Stern’s (Stephen Mangan) marriage.

As the Defoe’s gather in Barcelona for a family wedding, Hannah faces the potential of finding love again, while others suffer the family break-ups and clashes you’d expect. The Split.

The BBC has confirmed that the familiar faces of The Split — including Annabel Scholey (Nina), Fiona Button (Rose) and Deborah Findlay (Ruth) — will return for these two new episodes.

Other returning cast members include Ian McElhinney (Ronnie), Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Glen), Elizabeth Roberts (Liv) and Alex Guersman (Gael). A newcomer joining the ensemble will be Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) as smooth-talking lawyer Archie Moore.

Series creator Abi Morgan has previously said The SpliThe Return of t: “In a world of brutal breakups and tantalizing makeovers, the Defoe family is invited to a wedding of their own, promising everything the public has come to love. The Split.

The team behind it The Split he had previously been working on an independent spin-off, to be titled The Split Up and with a new family named Kishan, but it was reported in September that the BBC had halted development for “editorial reasons”.

The original incarnation of The Split it aired from 2018 to 2022, during which time it garnered several National Television Award nominations.

The Split: Barcelona will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
