Two arrested in separate pursuits over the weekend in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Two people were arrested in separate pursuits over the weekend in Topeka.

A 31-year-old woman is in custody after a pursuit early Sunday morning, according to Sheriff Brian C. Hill.

A Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Buick Park Avenue with an expired license plate near NE Fairchild Street and North Kansas Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 13, shortly after 2:30 am

The driver refused to stop and began a pursuit. The chase ended in the 2700 block of NE Sardou Avenue and the driver was taken into custody.

Stephanie L. Wagner, 31, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

Wagner was arrested on the following charges:

  • Run away trying to evade law enforcement
  • Driving a vehicle without registration
  • Excessive speed
  • Does not stop at a stop sign
  • Violating a traffic control signal
  • Without civil liability insurance for the vehicle

Wagner also has two warrants for his arrest.

This incident is still under investigation.

The Topeka Police Department, Topeka Fire Department and American Medical Response assisted.

According to Sheriff Brian C. Hill, a 20-year-old man was also arrested after a pursuit early Saturday morning.

A Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red 2012 Buick Verano that ignored road closures due to construction near SE 29th Street and SE Adams Street on Saturday 12 of October, around 3 in the morning.

The driver refused to stop and began a pursuit.

The deputy ended the pursuit near SE 29th Street and SE Wisconsin Avenue due to safety concerns.

Officers continued to search the area and located the abandoned vehicle with the driver on foot nearby.

Beau D. Belisle, 20, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

Belisle was arrested on the following charges:

  • Run away trying to evade law enforcement
  • Excessive speed
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Reckless driving
  • Unsafe turning or stopping
  • Driving illegally on a closed road
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Ignition interlock device
  • Interference with law enforcement

This incident is still under investigation.
