For the third consecutive season, Andrew Wiggins will be the X Factor of the Golden State Warriors. The veteran forward was a crucial part of Steve Kerr’s team that lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2022, courtesy of stellar two-way play where he proved to be one of the best two-way forwards of the NBA.

During a recent interview with Kerith Burke of NBC Sports Bay Area, Kerr shared his outlook for Wiggins next season. The veteran head coach still believes Wiggins can help the Warriors become a legitimate Western Conference contender despite their struggles over the past two seasons.

“To me, I already told him: six 3-pointers a game,” Kerr said. “He’s a very good 3-point shooter. He was down a little bit last year, but since he’s been here, 39, 40 percent. I want a lot of 3s and I want a lot of shots at the rim. He shot. Over 80 percent from the foul line in the second half of last year, he looks very comfortable in all aspects of Steph’s game, and we know he’s perfectly capable of that.”

Wiggins has been dealing with some personal issues over the past two seasons. He has also been out of the Warriors’ preseason rotation due to illness. However, it’s clear Kerr has a plan to get the best out of the former No. 1 draft pick, which could boost Golden State’s chances for a favorable position in the Western Conference.

Despite not being a star-level talent, Wiggins is an important piece of the Warriors puzzle. When they’re at their best, they’re a much tougher team to deal with on both ends of the court. Kerr and the entire fan base are hoping he can rediscover his 2022 production once the new season begins, so he can fill a much-needed role as a primary wing defender and as another catch-and-shoot threat .
